Mini Enduro #4: Snowbird

It was a beautiful day for a race! Sofia made a sign, we were all loaded in the car in plenty of time and blissfully on our way to watch Greg's last Mini Enduro of the summer. After buying pizza for the ride and blissfully watching a movie in the car, we made our way south. While the sun was shining in Kaysville ...

There was a downpour going on up at Snowbird.

The clouds got darker the closer we got to Cottonwood, and I hadn't packed any jackets, but we were already on our way so we kept going.

We were severely underdressed for the cold, mountain storm, but the girls were good sports anyway.

We made good time parking and making the short hike up to the first finish line. We found what we though would be a good spot to sit and watch, but after the first biker flew past and drenched us all with water from the puddle right in front us, we decided to move. Poor Sof got the worst of it, and she was already freezing.

Can you see the muddy water drops on her face?
Cute Claire had me do her hair like her favorite LOL doll.

Here he comes! Flying down the hill. Luckily he missed hitting the deer because it crossed literal seconds before he passed.

It was raining pretty good by the time Greg finished. Sof manned the umbrella while Claire, Quincey and I all huddled under our waterproof blanket. Claire eventually bailed and walked down the trail like the Mountain Mama that she is. I repeat: Claire in the wild is a beautiful thing.

After getting loaded and parked near the 2nd finish line, Greg informed me that the 2nd half of the race was cancelled because of the downpour. It was kind of a sad way to finish the season, but at least Greg got to race the 1st round - some people weren't even able to do that. He had fun while it lasted and we sure had fun chasing him around!

Luckily, Claire saved Greg some pizza (but not much dipping sauce) and Sof saved him a few breadsticks. Those girls don't mess around when Little Caesar's is involved. He got his fill, chatted for a few minutes, then climbed out so we could leave and he could hang around for the raffle drawing.

As we were going down the canyon, I noticed a big dumptruck that had run into the side of the mountain and tipped over. We must have been one of the first cars there because later down the canyon we passed the tow truck and ambulance headed up. It was a crazy thing to see the underside of the big truck. People go way to fast down those winding, mountain roads.

Poor Greg got stuck later waiting for the mess to be cleared. He was delayed 45 minutes at a dead stop waiting for everything to be towed away. He made it home in time to tell the girls goodnight.

What a day.
