The Davis County Fair

I love fairs. The food, booths, rodeos, animals, atmosphere, people-watching ... the list goes on. When I found out the dates for the Davis County Fair, you better believe I had it written on my calendar! It is hands down the best Fair I've been to in like, ever.

This was literally the biggest hog I have ever seen! I'm not sure how that gate was keeping it in it's pen.

There was a free petting zoo. I'm pretty sure I could've stayed there all day if Greg would have let me.

BABY PIGS!!!!!
Our future family pet (Not Sofi, the pig :))
Tiny baby goats!!!
Elephant rides

My little animal lover was less than thrilled to ride the ponies. But, we persevered and eventually got a picture of her not crying.

This one's the best.
Finally calming down, just in time for it to be over.
The genius people who planned the Fair were no rookies. There was a tent full of activities for the kids! I lost count of how many times Greg raced down this tube with Sofi. It had a vacuum attached and you would put your ball in and it would get sucked all the way through the tube and drop the ball in the bucket at the end.

There were also these fun old hand pumps on a water trough where the kids could pump water and send the rubber duckies down a mini water slide.

Greg milked a cow. I think he slightly enjoyed it.

We ended our fun day with our ward party. We have finally made friends in the last 2 years we've been in this ward, so we all had a really good time.

Sofi chose her headband. She is as girly as they come. She also loves to clean. She did not get that trait from me.

The theme for the ward party was everything "Pirate." We were the Chumbuckets for the night. Sadly, I obviously didn't get a picture with our new names. They were pretty great!

There were some fun Pirate related activities for the kids. There were water balloons, Octopuses (sponges stuck together to make 8 legs), Walking the plank (a big pine board over a mini pool) and digging for buried treasure. Sofi loves the sandbox so it wasn't hard to know which activity would be her favorite.

Digging for buried treasure
Why wouldn't she climb in?

We got some mosquito bites and Greg kept trying to convince me the sloppy joes were just taco meat but who cares? We all had fun and that is the only thing that matters.

What a Ham

Sofi is adored by just about everyone who knows her. She is often sought after by the neighborhood girls whenever they are outside having fun. She is slowly accepting her popularity, and finally joined in on the slip n'slide the other day. It was hilarious!

She doesn't handle being splashed very well. She had to suntan on her towel to regain her composure
Playing Peek-a-boo
The girls decide to copy cat Sofi. This helped ease her into being the center of attention.
Leading the opening stretches

They literally copied her every move
We finished the day by eating corn on the cob - Sofi's favorite. She ate an entire cob! More than her Daddy.

Lagoon!

The Friday during our camping trip was the day Greg's work had scheduled to be their Lagoon day, and of course we were going! Sofi was old enough to ride the kiddie rides with an adult and you better believe Greg and I went on Cannibal!

Waiting patiently in line
This ride was my favorite! We used a lever to make it go really high or low in the air, and it squirted water at you. I think I had more fun than Sofi.
Sofi saw this ugly cat on the carousel and was squealing like crazy to ride on it. Luckily no one else seemed to want to.
She was petting it the whole ride
The full effect! (Such an ugly cat)
We rode the Lagoon train and saw a bunch of animals I didn't even know where there! These Siberian Tigers were so pretty and Sofi was "Rawring!" at them in true Sofi fashion.

She was exhausted and was asleep before we even left the parking lot. She slept the whole drive back and to prolong it, we took a trip up to see the ski resorts above our campground. Such a pretty canyon! I told Greg to make lots of money so we could live in the area around Little Cottonwood Canyon.
We had really good hot dogs for dinner, and Sofi surprised us all by finishing mine. She loved them!

When she wasn't being an emo, she would run around and chase this ball while holding the pirate sword. She loves balls :)

Sofi played hard while camping! It was good for us to be able to kick back and relax while enjoying time outdoors and with family we haven't seen in quite a while.

Spjute Camping Trip Aug 10-13, 2016

The Spjute's all planned an annual camping trip this year. It had been awhile since Greg and his siblings have all gotten together, so what better way to reconnect than in the mountains? I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had. I'm not saying my expectations were high, and I may have moaned and groaned a little bit, but overall we had a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to our next wild adventure together.

We were the first ones to arrive at our campground, Tanner Flats up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Sadly, our site was nothing short of terrible, with the sad realization that our awesome new tent wouldn't even fit, but all was well when we started walking around and realized how pretty the area was. Luckily, we were able to put the tent up before it started to rain and Sofi was content to walk around and play in the dirt.

She developed a love for hula hoops
The rest of the Spjute's eventually showed up, and we all hung around until getting ready for the night. Holy cow was it cold at night! Luckily I packed enough blankets for Sofi but Greg and I weren't so lucky. Regardless, we all slept and Sofi woke us up with a hearty "Books!" She loves her books and was content to lay with us while we read every one I packed - twice.

Thursday's plans were to go to the Living Learning Aquarium in Sandy. We had never been but had high expectations, and we were not disappointed!

The idea of a Megaladon (google it) has always freaked me out! Standing in its jaws was no picnic.
This big kitty was Sofi's favorite thing! She was "RAWRING" and dancing the whole time
This frog's bubble fingers remind me of Greg's. Weird, but true.
Sleeping otters! You'd think they were dead
There was a fun play area right outside the door and she couldn't wait to get back out there
She went to her first movie! A whopping 15 minute 4D movie, and she hated it.
Sofi's lunch consisted of Root Beer. She couldn't get enough.
She was exhausted and slept the whole 20 minutes back to our campground.
After Sofi attempted to continue to nap in our tent (failing miserably), everyone drove a mile down the canyon to take a short hike to an amazing waterfall! Apparently Little Cottonwood Canyon is where the pioneers got the granite for the Salt Lake Temple. This was believable because there was literally granite everywhere! When we hiked to the falls, there were huge almost perfectly square cuts of granite just chilling at the bottom. So pretty!

Ba ha ha!
"Hey Max, how do you like Sam's bum in your face?" :)
Greg's cute dad loves pirates and is instills this love into his grandchildren whenever he can. He and Kathy planned a fun scavenger hunt for the older kids, and I followed along with Sofi. Greg was a bad guy so it was fun to watch him pop out of the bushes every so often.
