Sofia's Baptism - May 6, 2023

Sofia was so excited for her baptism. She had picked the dress, we had taken pictures, and the day finally came!

That morning, though, I received a phone call from the Stake Primary President to let us know that there was no hot water in the church, and wondering what we would like to do. Because we had family in town, Greg and I decided to move forward with the baptism. It would make it memorable for Sof, right?

It was kind of a chilly day anyway, but Sof handled it like a champ. The food was ready, the house was clean (enough), so we made our way to the church. Sure enough, the water was freezing, but they had put a space heater in the bathroom to help dispel the cold a little bit. And warm water or not, the baptism was still beautiful. Sof was one well-represented girly, and it was so fun to have family in Idaho, Washington, Colorado, and New York supporting her. Technology is pretty great, for occasions like this.

Bro. Adams conducted her baptism and did a great job. He invited her up to turn around and look around the room at everyone who had come to support her.
Aunt Katy gave one of the talks.

The water was so cold, that as soon as Greg submerged Sof, she went stiff as a board - literally - and rose to the surface. Because she was so stiff, all Greg had to do was push her down and she was immersed. It was hilarious.

She stood in front of the space heater for as long as we dared, then we wiped her down and put her beautiful baptism dress on.

While I was helping Sof get dressed, I had note cards passed around so everyone there could write Sof a little note - I then compiled them into a little book. I hope it's something she's able to read and smile when she remembers her baptism. The memories will fade, but the words won't.

Sof sang the sweetest little duet with Greg - A Child's Prayer. I accompanied, which was special. They did great.

Afterwards, we reconvened at our house for strawberry, lemon, orange, and raspberry sweet rolls, with orange juice, chocolate milk, and fruit. It was legit delicious, and my mouth is watering just typing about it.

Sof had fun playing with cousins, and we had fun celebrating her. It was a beautiful day.

The Whettens are always so good to come and support us!
We loved having the Haggerty's.
Katy & (soon-to-be) Uncle Niel.
Grandma and Grandpa Thorley.
Cute Jonah brought her a gift, even though he wasn't able to attend. Sof has some good friends.

Sof is kind, courageous, and the best ring-leader to our girl gang. She does what is asked of her and is always looking out for the underdog.

Although she may have been freezing the rest of the day, it was a beautiful baptism, and she had the biggest smile on her face.

It was a beautiful day.
