Greg googled it, and it is estimated that our nasty fridge was created roughly around 1992, which is impressive that it's lasted that long (it's only 1 year younger than me). But, with all good things, they must come to an end. And, after 4 years, we felt like we deserved a new fridge, so I somehow removed the top cupboard and shrunk it so a newer and therefore larger fridge could fit in our small space.
Getting the cupboard out was simple (or so I thought). I simply unscrewed it, and marveled that it was still stuck in place after nothing held it together. So, after hitting it with the hammer a few times, it finally fell and was caught so lovingly by the top of our fridge. From there, I wrestled it out and shrunk it down.
But, getting it back into place was a whole different story. After the cupboard was out, the weight from the side cupboards collapsed in 1/8", which doesn't sound like a lot, but it is when you have a heavy cabinet you're trying to lift back up into the air. We used Home Depot buckets, dollies, and a tie down to squeeze the cabinet back into the slot, all while Greg push both cabinets apart with his back and his legs. He then held the cabinet up to the ceiling with his head.
Boyfriend is a freakin' Ox!
Look at all that space for a new fridge! |
I also started to have the girls do some "summer school" every day, and it was so cute seeing them sit together at the Minnie Table.
