Escaping to the Mountain

With summer full upon us, and with no vacation in sight, we took a quick trip to Cedar City to spend a few days at the cabin. My family gets 2 weeks every summer to spend up at the infamous Thorley cabin but this year Greg, Sofia and I were the only 3 to make it during our week.

Sofia isn't much of a car ride lover, and she screamed the whole 3.5 hour drive. I was more than a little peeved by the time we got to my parents. Luckily, I have Greg to dump the babe on.
Now imagine this red face and the crying that went along
with it. Poor babe, and poor us :(
All of the crying means she slept like a rock - 10 whole hours.
Bur seriously, who sleeps like this?
Before we got to the mountain, Greg helped my dad by driving around on the bulldozer all morning. He had a huge smile on his face knowing he should be in a windowless cubicle but instead was being bounced around out in the sunshine. What a hard life he has.

Look at that focus.
A selfie without Sofie ...
We finally made it to the mountain, and after unpacking we relaxed by spending some time on the porch. It's amazing how simple life seems being up in the middle of the mountains. Greg couldn't believe that he could hear all of the bugs buzzing and how brave the hummingbirds were; they would fly right up to you and stare us straight in the face - such cute little lards. The joke of the weekend was, "What happens if a hummingbird is diebetic?" A very valid question ...
Greg fell asleep on the porch ... he never naps
Finally a family selfie before Sof's first 4-wheeler ride
Sofia absolutely loved being up on the mountain. While she is a baby who tolerates noise, she does like it to be quiet; both a blessing and a curse for me. I don't think she cried once the two days we were at the cabin - she would just sit and look around at everything.
Sofia hanging out. She just chilled the whole time. I had
to document her super cute mountain clothes. Those pants ... :)
It was so nice to be able to be on our own agenda. Greg studied for his CPA exam as best he could. It was fun to play on the swing set and go on some walks.

I truly love these quakies. They are some of the biggest
ever recorded
It was weird to go walking through the tree's on my own
two legs instead of the back of a horse, but I'm glad I had
my sweet Sofia Lu with me
Thorley point is one of the most beautiful places on earth, according to my own biased opinion. Sadly, Sofi was asleep every time we went there. Greg's crazy driving would knock her out every time, but I'm so glad I got to take her up there regardless.

It's not a cabin trip without my pink boots. Greg says I looked
ridiculous... He may be right.
Relaxing back at the house. Thank you MaKaty for
the skewompus picture ...
Sofi loved the cabin so much she slept 9-10 hours each night - my little wonder baby. I just wish I could get that much sleep and still nap in the day.

We were lucky enough to spend our Sunday in Cedar for Father's Day, even if it was for a short amount of time - we had to get back to Bountiful beginning Monday. We took a quick picture with the new Bishop Thorley and went to take Sofia to see Great Grandma Jolley. She sure loves that lady, as do I :)

The best dad a girl could ask for
So glad we got to see this pretty lady! Sofi was 3 weeks old
last time. I want her to grow up knowing her great grandma
Sweet Sofia Lu slept just about the whole way back to Bountiful. I think she gets bored in the backseat and needs some stimulation, so I'm often her travel buddy being chauffered around by Greg.

The Monday after our mini family vacation, Sofi refused to nap. I think she was so overstimulated by all of the craziness that she couldn't believe we were back in our own place. I love this cute picture.

She is so good at making me think she's asleep.
I have to walk by a mirror to see that she's still
wide awake and hanging on like a spider monkey.
While I'm at it, I may as well post a picture of Sofia Lu at 2 months old. Isn't she so big? She has quite the personality and set of lungs. She absolutely loves her bath time and spending time outside. She isn't shy when it comes to letting us know she doesn't like something and it's amazing how something so tiny and be so in charge. She is serious when it comes to stretching and has found her fists and sucks on them any chance she gets. She blows bubbles when she's hungry and has gone from a tummy time love to a hater. We love her and love who she is allowing us to be: her parents. Life has so much more meaning now that she is in our family.

How could you not adore her?!
Also while I'm at it, I'll throw in a picture of her on her blessing day. Such a beautiful baby and a beautiful day. Almost all of our family could make it and it was the perfect weather. the Spjute's even got to sit in our air-conditioned apartment, or they would've melted.
Pretty little princess
Summer is in full-swing and it is so fun to have this new adventure of parenthood. I love watching how it is changing Greg and his devotion to our family. I'm convinced he loves Sofi more than me ... don't ask him or it may become true. We are so happy and love this time of year!

I'm so glad you guys enjoyed your cabin trip! Looks like Sofi behaved herself (except for the car - I feel your pain). Now that Toby's seen the pics from your cabin he definitely wants to see it in person! ;)
